SpeakOut Books

The value of literacy is hard to measure....until you read a CFL SpeakOut book.  Within the pages are the voices of hundreds of people touched by the power of literacy.  Some share words of celebration, dreams, or promise, while others walk us through their corridors of pain.  Each book is an awesome compilation of diverse voices - where everyone meets on the page to look within, open up, and speak out.  It's a must read for students, teachers, and volunteers alike.

Each year, the Center for Literacy invites students, staff, and volunteers to exercise their voices, champion their dreams, celebrate their accomplishments, and show others the power of literacy.  The SpeakOut books represent a collection of those voices, and a testament to the strength of our learners who, in most cases, are overcoming incredible odds.  Each short piece reflects a redeeming faith, a moment of glory, a deep sadness, or the conquest of the written word.  Every piece is the voice of the author and remains unedited.

We hope your review of the authors’ works yields an appreciation for the accomplishment and courage of each of our learners, and gives rise to a celebratory moment in recognition of the triumph every author deserves.

There are a limited number of SpeakOut books available.   Editions from 2007 through 2012 are available at $10 each.  Older editions (which are spiral bound) are $5 each.
